Support small artists!

If you are visiting Ithaca this winter, check out Satori Salon, where I'll be displaying my artwork from January 5 - February 14!
When I'm not mapping water on savannas or tracking elephants, I'm also a writer, sewist, knitter, photographer, and musician. As such, I love to support other artists. In a world full of fast fashion and AI Etsy rip-offs, it can be hard to find real artists to support. Here are a select few of my favorite independent art shops -- enjoy!

If you want to learn more about fast fashion, I highly recommend following Aja Barber on social media or patreon and read her book, Consumed, The need for collective change: Colonialism, Climate Change, & Consumerism. In addition, the podcast Clothes Horse with Amanda Lee McCarty  is an excellent resource from a fashion insider.

Morningwitch Studios

botanical apparel for all people

I absolutely love everything about Morningwitch! Their designs are size-inclusive and gender-neutral. I bought their "salamander woods" bomber jacket as a dissertation defense gift for myself, and I receive SO many compliments. It keeps me warm and stylish :)

Saskie & Co

knitting patterns & notions
from the arctic

Weichien is a fantastic knit designer who specializes in Arctic-inspired knitwear patterns. I'm a big fan of her work (I even have her first book!) and have made variations on her Clairdelune mittens several times.

Ginger & Twine Co

cottagecore stationery and
other fun trinkets

Ginger & Twine creator Brianna makes some adorable little stickers and magnets full of forest creatures and whimsy; these designs are sadly ripped off by AI Etsy sellers on the daily. I brake for lil guys!

The Roving House

We make art that goes somewhere.

This husband-and-wife team makes beautiful biologically-accurate crafts for all. Some friends got me this adorable pin of a salamander playing a fiddle under a chanterelle... how could I not love this shop?

A DC-based women-owned embroidery shop. I don't have any of Miri's products yet, but I love her energy and can't wait to support a great disabled DC artist who encourages her followers to do good :)

Thistle finch designs

modern embroidery, unexpected art.

I ran into Thistle Finch's designs on a trip to Philly and Independence Hall. Millie's designs are top-notch and she's totally self taught. I especially love her enamel pins!
